How does it handle idling? Does it turn off disk and starts it again when there's any request for data?

I've had one of these for nearly two years now. Connected to my wireless network serving two laptops, and my Phillips media server. Stores all my music and movies and backups.

Only niggle is that it sometimes freezes if left idling for long periods in a really warm room. Still going Strong and nearly full.
