I need a new printer, and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend one. I don't need colour; black and white will do. It should be on the small size too. Thanks!

Some things to keep in mind: 1) Printing cost, if you print a lot. And I understand printing manufacturers will give you an estimate of how many pages a cartridge will print 2) For incoming faxes maybe use efax.com which has a free plan. It can reduce your printing cost and also your phone line won't be getting faxes.

I have a Cannon Pixma ip3000 which is pretty good but has some areas where it could be better.

It is good with 1) not so expensive to print in black, compared to other ink jets, and 2)Once it starts printing it is fast.

The cons are 1) seems expensive to print in color and 2) the printer taked a while to initialize after a long pause from printing.
